Pretty Things singer Phil May needs your help

phil-mayPretty Things frontman Phil May has been diagnosed with the serious lung disease COPD after a lifetime of smoking and is hospital in London. The band’s busy touring schedule is on hold.

In true fashion, "Ugly Things" - the magazine that has championed the band throughout its second coming - is running a campaign to lift May’s spirits by calling for a barrage of supportive letters.

“Phil can beat this,” writes editor Mike Stax on the magazine’s website “But he needs your help and encouragement. He needs to give up drinking and especially smoking urgently and immediately.

“Those closest to him believe the best chance he has of doing this is to turn his lifestyle around, and immerse himself again in art, music and writing.

"Tell him how much his music has meant to you. Explain why you are a fan of the Pretty Things. Write about why a particular Pretty Things song, album or live show has meaning for you. Share your own story of kicking drink, drugs or smoking or of overcoming a potentially deadly illness or disease. Let him know that what he does matters."

Ugly Things says Facebook feedback and email won’t cut it – “Phil is not a computer person; he won’t ever see them. Only a letter has the personal touch that will get our message through” – and they need to go to:

Waited forty odd years to see my hero phil and am pleased to say did so with my youngest son, who is now also a fan of the greatest ever band,The Pretty Things. We saw them at O2 Glasgow, what a night. I want more nights like that Phil, so get better soon and get back to Scotland.
