  • down the shops smDown The Shops – Even (Cheersquad Records and Tapes)

    Even’s newest release, “Down The Shops” is a collection of covers recorded and released between 1996 and 2019.

    Many appeared on Even‘s CD and vinyl singles and others are better known from tribute albums. The songs are a mixture of studio recordings and live performances.

    While the selection of songs points to obvious influences- Kinks, Beatles, Yardbirds, Master’s Apprentices - it also encompasses less obvious sources such as the MC5 and the Sex Pistols.

Green Circles not only struggle with the fact they're domiciled in Adelaide, a remote and near geographically featureless Australian city that makes Sydney look like a happening musical town, they're existing 40 years too late.

    This isn’t an essential purchase, not in this world of freebie downloads and rubbish music. Surely?

    Well, actually I rather love this little record, and it looks super in my collection. And, as I understand from Bob’s accompanying pitiful blurb that there’s an LP in the works, all this is as far as I am concerned, most certainly essential. Why?

    So settle back on Granfer’s knee and I’ll tell ye a story young feller …
