    Comes a time when bands of a certain vintage struggle to pull big numbers of people regardless of their pedigree. Sydney-via-the-Far-North-Coast quartet Joeys Coop are a prime example when they dive back into the patchy live music circuit. 

    You’d think a musical unit comprising guitarist Brett Myers (The End, Died Pretty), Mark Roxburgh (ME-262, The Decline of The Reptiles) on vocals, bassist Mark Lynch (Glide) and Lloyd Gyi (more bands and sessions than you can poke a drum stick at) would pack punters in like canned pilchards, but the demographic has shifted. Distractions and complications abound today and, yes, those were different times.

  • Severely underrated Australian band Joeys Coop is flagging the imminent release of their third album with a single, “In The Pines”.

    Comprising Brett Myers of Died Pretty, Mark Roxburgh of Decline of the Reptiles, Marc Lynch of Glide and Lloyd Gyi of Perry Keyes and Dave Warner, Joeys Coop have some serious pedigree.  "In The Pines" showscases that, and the long-player “Sawdust Memories” is out on July 3.

    It will be accompanied by an extensive tour which starts on Thursday June 25 at MoshPit in Sydney, and continues over the weekend of July 11 and 12at Mullum Roots Festvial in Mullumbimby in Far North New South Wales. Expect more dates to be announced.

    Not only can you buy the digital single and pre-order the album on Bandcamp, you can purchase the band’s own label wines here. In the words of Mark Roxburgh: “Each bottle consumed will get us closer to paying off our latest release, Sawdust Memories, and move us a little bit closer to another one in a few years’ time. The more you drink the happier you’ll be".

    Album Number Three. Who’da thunk it? OK, Joeys Coop have been chugging along for 14 years and maybe should have a few more under our belt but it’s not like there is massive demand for shows or recorded output from a bunch of 50 - 60-year-olds that aren’t a heritage act but do have a bit of history.

    Recorded at the wonderful Golden Retriever Studios (in Sydney's Marrickville) owned by the eccentric, talented and delightful Simon Berckelman. Simon is the brains behind Philadelphia Grand Jury and his dad, Richard, was the drummer in Kiss My Poodles Donkey and he built the studio. There is a lot of great gear there and the big room is the space you can hear around the drums.

    Our pre-production on this was typical of how we work. Given funds are always tight, we work as hard as we can in rehearsal to nail arrangements, parts etc. Because of that, and because the boys also practice all  their parts at home, we tend to be a one or two take band. I track vocals when we do the bed tracks.
