Boston music legend Jeff “Mono Mann” Connolly (DMZ, Lyres) is struggling with medical debt amid treatment for cancer. A GoFundMe is active and Conolly recently updated fans on his progress.
“My monthly prescribed chemotherapy and pre-surgery medixations were 'affordable' last month at $245.99 – yesterday…my Insurance-'covered' prescriptions jumped In price by 20 percent,” wrote Conolly, now living in Lynn, Massachusetts.
“Without your GoFundMe support and contributions I couldn't make It to my real end-game: to be CANCER FREE IN 2026!”
Connolly has had his bladder removed and is now scheduled for prostate surgery.
Conolly joined a nascent DMZ on vocals and organ in 1976. Heavily influenced by so-called garage sounds, they recorded an EP for Bomp (produced by the first Ramones producer Craig Leon) and then signed with Sire Records.
Their Flo & Eddie-produced LP, “DMZ”, failed to make a commercial dent and they dissolved, with drummer David Robinson going on to play with The Cars.
Conolly co-founded Lyres in 1979 DMZ. Their most popular songs include "Don't Give It Up Now", "She Pays The Rent" and "Help You Ann". Ex-DMZ members Rick Coraccio, Paul Murphy, Peter Greenberg and Mike Lewis all rejoined Conolly in Lyres at some point
