The Supersuckers and Nashvile Pussy are returning to Australia under the banner “Superpussy” in February 2027 - this time with Nine Pound Hammer in tow. Supersuckers and Nashville will alternately headline and the tour reprises their sold-out Oz run of two years ago. Tickets are on sale here.
Eddie Spaghetti and his pals in The Supersuckers should need no introduction to Australian audiences after repeated visits. The band has churning out their brand of rocking cowpunk since 1988.
Nashiville Pussy are familiar as well: Raised on a diet of Marshall stacks, Gibson guitars, Jack Daniels and weed, Nashville Pussy is the bastard offspring of foul-mouthed, demented, hillbilly, ice-cream man Blaine Cartwright and tractor driving, nude art school model and guitar prodigy, Ruyter Suys.
Born deep in the Baptist Bible Belt of Kentucky, USA, Cartwright used the sounds of The Ramones and The New York Dolls to maintain sanity. Meanwhile in Vancouver, Canada, an eight-year-old hippie kid, Ruyter Suys. picked up her father’s guitar and started playing along with Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix.
“We got married on a dare, after dropping acid… Nashville Pussy is our baby,” says Suys. Ain’t love grand?
One of the true originators of the Cowpunk genre, Nine Pound Hammer are heading down under for the first time. The Hammers were one of the first rural hardcore punk bands in the USA to incorporate rural blue-collar motifs into the minimalistic hardcore sound.
With 12 albums and almost as many break-ups under their belt - one in 1997 ending in Blaine forming Nashville Pussy - the band has stood the test of time as one of the US South's finest.
