A former guitarist, Hooper had switched to bass by the time he joined the Beasts in 1990. He remained their bassist until now. He also played with Kim Salmon and the Surrealists, in his own solo bands and as sideman to Rowland S Howard.
A second benefit is being held at Claremont Showgrounds in Perth tonight and will feature performances from Kim Salmon and friends, Gareth Liddiard, Kill Devil Hills, King Pig, Teenage Dreamers and more.
