A 30-year veteran of the Australian rock’n’roll scene, James McCann knows something about the brutal reality of independent music. After cutting his teeth in Perth. McCann moved to Sydney in the early 1990s where he joined the Hard-Ons spin-off outfit Nunchukka Superfly and formed Harpoon.
He moved back to Perth and joined the first line up of The Drones and striking up an association with Kill Devil Hills, and shifted to Melbourne in the mid 2000s to pursue a variety of solo and collaborative projects.

Charlie Georgees, one of the 1970s underground Australian rock and roll scene’s unsung guitar heroes, passed away on Saturday. Close friend Jim Dickson of Radio Birdman broke the news today on Facebook.
The pair first crossed paths at James Cook University in Townsville and joined a musical migration of like-minded Queenslanders to Sydney soon after.

Wayne Kramer, one of contemporary hard rock’s most influential guitarists, passed away in hsiopital in Los Angeles on Friday, following a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 75.
The former MC5, MC5-DKT, Gang War, solo band and soundtrack artist was on the verge of releasing a new album under the MC5 name.
The influence of Wayne Kramer and the MC5 on bands like The Damned, Radio Birdman, Rage Against the Machine, Ramones, New York Dolls and scores of others can’t be underestimated.

They were Australian rock and roll’s undisputed Kings of Cowpunk in the 1980s and broke house records around the country. Four decades later, The Johnnys are out to show they’ve lost none of their edge when they rock Manly and Elizabeth Bay in New South Wales this month, presented by The I-94 Bar.

Radio Birdman will mark their 50th year with a farewell Australian tour in June and July.
The seven-date , four-city run – labelled “Birdman 5-0” - starts with two nights in Melbourne and ends with a brace of gigs in hometown Sydney.

Pioneering female guitarist Penny Ikinger began her musical journey in Sydney’s Wet Taxis in the 1980s, alongside the late Louis Tillett.
Since then, she’s collaborated with an eclectic range of musicians in Australia including Deniz Tek (Radio Birdman), Kim Salmon, Sacred Cowboys, Charlie Owen, Dave Graney, Clare Moore, and overseas with Dimi Dero (France), Vinz Guilluy (France), Masami Kawaguchi (Japan) and Donovan’s Brain (USA).

Richie Lewis is branching out from his best-known day job - that'd be frontman for Tumbleweed - to record his first album, under the name Richie Weed. He's delivered the first taste of the recordings with a digital single, "Pure Evil", that you can stream right here.
While Tumbleweed continued to write, record and perform, Richie spent a large chunk of last year concentrating on solo endeavours, curating a captivating show titled "Spirit Songs and Stories", and recording.

He was a music writer, lawyer and most of all he was a family man, and a celebration of the life and times of Patrick Emerywill be held at Fitzroy Town Hall in Melbourne on Wednesday at 3pm.
Patrick was the biographer of Spencer P Jones and a reviewer for many media outlets, including the I-94 Bar. He collapsed on December 24 and doctors diagnosed an inoperable brain cancer.
After four days on life support, Patrick passed away in hospital, surrounded by his family, aged 52.
Wednesday's memorial service is open to all and a livestream will be active
